What is it?

A very high percentage of the population has digestive problems, therefore at Vithas International we have a unit specialised in providing effective solutions for this type of patient. Our Digestive Disorder Institute offers complete treatment for all digestive tract pathologies, as well as pancreatic, hepatic and biliary pathologies.

Our objective is to approach the study and diagnosis of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as the glands related to it, and offer our patients suitable treatments, always personalised for each case and providing the maximum quality. Additionally, we also work on prevention, especially of colon cancer and liver cancer.

Our commitment is to resolving or alleviating any problem or pathology that our patients have, providing our experience, reasoning and logic, with research and documentation, and offering the latest advances.

Doctor Pedro Mora, head of the Digestive Disorder Institute of Vithas International, has over 30 years of professional experience as a Digestive System Specialist.

He is an expert in endoscopy and ultrasound, the main techniques within the speciality of the digestive system, and is certified as an expert in “Ultrasound in Gastroentereology” issued by the European School of Ultrasonology.

Differentiating aspects

Main techniques

Endoscopy may be used both for diagnosis and treatment, as it allows us to remove polyps, make calculations based on the biliary tract, treat bleeding wounds, etc. The most frequently used are the gastroscopy and colonoscopy, but we include more innovative techniques such as the capsule endoscopy, in which the patient swallows a capsule that contains a tiny camera that takes photographs through the digestive tract to then be read by software. We offer all endoscopic techniques with anaesthesia, in collaboration with the Anaesthesiology service.

Digestive ultrasound is based on diagnosis through images, and is used to examine the internal organs of the abdomen without any discomfort for the patient. It is a fast, painless test, key to treating multiple digestive pathologies. We also have the option of making injections and comparisons.

Other complementary techniques in the area of the digestive system are radiological, such as scanning or resonance.

What does it diagnose? What does it treat?

We are specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease), along with a set of inflammatory pathologies with different levels of intensity. We offer personalised treatments based on the needs of each patient.

In the case of hepatic pathologies, the new treatments with antivirals, which have almost no side effects, have cure rates of over 90%. We also diagnose and treat hepatic steatosis, the fat deposit in the liver, an illness which is increasingly frequent, as it is related with obesity and overweight.
